Stop Smoking Services in Warwickshire  

 


 

Services in GP Surgeries/ Pharmacies

 

Most doctor’s surgeries in Warwickshire and some pharmacies offer a stop

smoking service.  The service is provided on a one-to-one basis, usually with

a Practice Nurse or Pharmacist/Pharmacy Assistant.  Quitters will get regular

appointments over the first few weeks of quitting, along with prescriptions for

nicotine replacement therapy, Zyban® or Champix®6

Stop Smoking in Pregnancy Service

Pregnant smokers can be referred from a midwife to a Smoking and Pregnancy Advisor who will visit the smoker in their own home.  The Advisor can also support other members of the family.  To access this service, smokers can contact their midwife or phone 0800 085 2917. This offers free friendly help and support.  It can also put the smoker in touch with the Stop Smoking Service in their area.

Do U Txt?

Would you like to take part in a research project to test the use of text messages in stopping smoking?  Txt2stop is an exciting new smoking cessation support programme. The text messages are all free. To find out more text ‘smoke’ to 651515 or register on the internet at www.txt2stop.org.

http://www.informedhealthchoice.com/quitex is a new interactive website called QUITEX which provides information and helps smokers choose between the different options that are available to help them quit.  Smokers who are thinking about making a quit attempt can log onto the website and get information about different types of quitting methods as well as obtaining their personalised quit smoking plan.

 

www.gosmokefree.nhs.uk gives help and advice on stopping smoking including details of local services.

www.ash.org.uk gives help and advice on stopping smoking as well as information on a wide range of smoking-related issues.
