Warwickshire Stop Smoking Service

Smokers invited in from the dark and cold as clocks change

Smokers in Warwickshire are being invited to access their local free stop smoking service so they don’t have to stand outside in the cold and dark to have a smoke.

As the clocks go back and the weather gets colder smokers who have been having to smoke outside since the smoke free law came into effect from 1 July may be seriously considering stopping altogether.  Jane Wright, Manager of Warwickshire Stop Smoking Service, said, “This is an ideal time for smokers who want to stop for good now the nights are drawing in.  We have a range of very local stop smoking services, and many people who have quit with us say how much better they feel and how much money they have saved.”

Over the week of 22 October Warwickshire Stop Smoking Service will be part of a community roadshow at Rope Walk Shopping Centre, Nuneaton.  A new advert for the Service will be shown on a giant plasma screen throughout the week, and information will be available for smokers who are interested in quitting.  On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 12.00-2 a Stop Smoking Advisor will be available to talk to smokers and take their carbon monoxide levels.

Two new stop smoking sessions will be held in the evenings at Bedworth Leisure Centre on Thursdays, 5-7 pm and Wellness Matters Centre, Newtown Road, Nuneaton on Wednesdays 5-7 pm.  Anyone who wants to stop smoking can access these sessions by appointment only – phone 0800 085 2917 to book an appointment.

Smokers who want to stop can also access free, expert support from a range of venues, including doctors’ surgeries, pharmacies and community centres.  Smokers can expect one-to-one support from a Stop Smoking Advisor to help them plan how they will quit, regular support over the first few weeks of stopping, along with prescriptions for nicotine replacement therapy such as patches or gum, Zyban or Champix (products are free if you don’t pay for prescriptions).  To find their local stop smoking service smokers should contact Warwickshire NHS Stop Smoking Service on 0800 085 2917.
